BEL CANTANTI OPERA COMPANY ACCOMPANIED BY EKATERINA SOUVOROVA
Hansel and Gretel by Englebert Humperdinck
Monday, December 17, 2007 (Beethoven's Birthday)

As our special Christmas program this year, we (and the German Embassy) are delighted to bring you another of Bel Cantanti's superbly sung operas.

Hansel and Gretel, everybody's favorite fairy tale opera about two children lost in the woods is at the same time a beautiful, tuneful musical masterpiece that has resonance for audiences of far more years than children.

The original, the most famous of the Grimm Brothers' frightening fairy tales, actually played a fascinating role in the evolution of the modern state of Germany. And yes, of course, it includes the famous "Evening Prayer."

Bring your whole family to see this magic, colorful opera. Sung in English with English supertitles, fully staged, in costume and accompanied on the piano by the redoubtable Katerina Souvorova.
